Listen! NYPL Panel on One WTC

Tremendous, enlightening evening at the Celeste Auditorium at the New York Public Library on May 25. I moderated a panel of World Trade Center experts, who spoke candidly about the project and why they made the choices they did.

Surprising assessments by Patrick Foye of the Port Authority on the WTC investment (or why the airports and bus terminals have yet to be repaired). Carla Swickerath of Studio Libeskind reveals why they located One WTC on the site’s most vulnerable corner. Ken Lewis on why SOM would have sited the tower elsewhere, and on bringing the best minds together to develop safety and sustainability features at Seven and One WTC. Yoram Eilon of WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff explains the tower’s hybrid concrete/steel structure –in language that we mere mortals can understand – and then constructs on a moment frame on stage!

Listen here!

Judith Dupré moderates a lively discussion between architect Kenneth A. Lewis of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill; Yoram Eilon, engineer and Senior Vice President of Building Structures, WSP/Parsons Brinckerhoff; architect and master planner Carla Swickerath of Studio Libeskind; and Patrick J. Foye, Executive Director of the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey.
